Metal n Mantas – Truk Lagoon
After Galapagos and Cocos were added to our Warm Water Rush schedule for 2009 and 2010 we were a little worried that we had peaked and simply couldn’t better these destinations, but Stop Press and check this out.

Truk and Palau 2011
The Metal ‘n’ Mantas 2011 Trip will see us head out to two of the worlds most remote and beautiful diving areas, those of the famed Truk Lagoon and the spectacular islands of Palau in Micronesia.
On the morning of February 17, 1944 “Operation Hailstone” a surprise attack by United States Navy aircraft caught Japanese merchant vessels and warships by surprise in Truk Lagoon. Over 400 tons of bombs and torpedo were dropped during the sustained attack, with more still dropped when the attacks continued on February 18, 1944. A total of forty ships were sunk and thousands of Japanese were lost, and ten weeks later, a second successful raid sank even more ships.
Today the entire area has become one of the most iconinc and renowned dive areas in the world, and we’re giving you the chance to be one of a handful of divers to experience it.

Truk Lagoon and Palau 2011
Your adventure will begin as soon as you leave the UK and travel to the ultimate dive sites of Truk and Palau, via Manilla and Guam. Once in-country we shall transfer to our hosts liveboard for the action, Odyssey.

Truk Odyssey
Since each day aboard Odyssey offers new adventures, no day is really typical. Nothing is routine and our schedule will vary depending on location.
The day aboard Odyssey begins after a 7:00 a.m. hot breakfast with your first dive briefing around 7:45. You will be able to do two dives before lunch. During lunch we usually move to a new site. After lunch you have the option to either do another dive, or relax on the either of the sundecks or in the privacy of your own stateroom. A late afternoon dive is also offered. Around 6:30 p.m. a sumptuous dinner will be waiting for you. After dinner you may choose to do a night dive or alternativly gather with the other guests in the entertainment lounge to enjoy a movie, or review what was captured that day in video.

Truk - Inside The Japanese Fleet
Since most of the dive sites in Truk Lagoon are fairly close to each other, it is easy for us to move around. The best part about diving aboard Odyssey is that we don’t require everyone to dive at the same time. So it is not unusual for you and your buddy to be the only divers on a 500′ wreck, giving you limiytless opportunities to shoot some truly amazing scenes without having to wait for others to move out of the way.

Silent Guns in Truk Lagoon
Once we have had our fill of adventure in Truk, and experienced sights that have been shared by only a select few other luck individuals we shall move on to Palau. It is here that we shall have the opportunity to share the ocean with one of its most graceful and awe inspiring inhabitants – The Manta Ray.
