SiE Level 1 PADI Discover Scuba Session

The PADI Discover Scuba Session is intended to give non-divers the chance to experience the thrills of weightlessness and freedom that can be enjoyed in the underwater world. In the SiE programme employed for Quinzone (Birmingham) we delivered four DSD sessions, with 6 young persons and two Quinzone / Police participants on each session. The session is challenging enough, and far enough out of the young persons usual comfort zone that they really do take stock and pay attention throughout, and as they are in exactly the same position as the adults attending for the organisation they really did seem to interact well together.

The session is pool based and includes Equipment Assembly; Briefings; Water Entry; Progression through Face-In to full Underwater Scuba; Underwater Games; and Free Scuba Time to Explore. The session is lead by our own fully qualified Instructors, working on a ratio of 2:1 (Team to Students), and all specialist equipment is provided.

This programme was delivered to approx 40 participants within the Quinzone (Birmigham) programme, with a total of 8 young persons and 2 adults from the organisation then being selected to progress through to the next level the following month. In the Quinzone example the progression through to each of the further levels was earned through ongoing good behaviour, and as the project in total lasted over a three month period the results were extended and ongoing.
