Enriched Air Diver

If everyone understood it then everyone would be using it ! The PADI Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN) programme is one of our most popular programmes, and really can make a massive difference to your safety and enjoyment of future dives, and as it is now totally classroom based, with no open water dives required, it is quick and easy for everyone to complete ahead of their next UK or overseas dive trip.

The whole crux of Enriched Air Nitrox use whilst diving is to simply reduce the amount of “crap” gas that your body has the potential to absorb. When diving with standard air your body is exposed to a massive portion of Nitrogen (79%) in the gas you are breathing, and thus can become saturated in this gas relatively quickly leading to all manner of complications (DCI, tiredness etc). The benefit of enriching you air with aditional Oxygen is that it proportionatly reduces the amount of remaining Nitrogen, therfore when using a 36% Nitrox mix you body may only be exposed to 64% Nitrogen. This reduced Nitrogen exposure can massivly aid your margin of safety, by slowing the saturation process and keeping you further away from the upper saturation limits, especially when resort or multi-day diving.

Our PADI Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN) programme is delivered like many of our other programmes on a prescriptive basis, with the aid of the PADI Enriched Air Multi Media Pack. The Mutli Media Pack contains your PADI Enriched Air Manual and DVD, EAN 32% and 36% Calculation Tables, and Equivilant Air Depth table, all of which will enable you to cover the bulk of your initial learning on a self-study basis.

Once at your PADI Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN) traning session our Instructor will initially work through your Knowledge Reviews with you and the other students in your group, to ensure you have managed to grasp the fundamentals corrrectly. After these are complete your Instructor will take you through a series of Enriched Air Nitrox dive planning scenarios, allowing you to fully practise and perfect your new dive planning skills and safety checks.

As diving with Enriched Air Nitrox is physically exactly the same as diving on Air there is no need to actually dive within this programme, simply to demonstrate that you are competenet in planning and preparing to dive. With this in mind the final stage of your PADI Enriched Air (EAN) tranining will see you learn the process of Gas Collection; Gas Analysis; Safe Labelling and all of the required Administration processes required when collecting your Enriched Air Nitrox from a dive centre.

On satisfactory completion of this programme you will be awarded the PADI Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN) speciality certification, allowing you to obtain EANx fills upto 40% oxygen content.
