Your PADI Instructor Development Course is part one of the two stages to becoming a fully qualified PADI Instructor and you will most probably feel by far the hardest. It is designed to fully prepare you, both in knowledge and skills to face the second stage of the process, the PADl Instructor Examination. The examination itself is completely external and run by PADI head office itself, so yes, we really do need you to be ready for this one, both our reputations depend on it.

At this level of your Personal Underwater Journey, your course must be conducted by a very specific and highly qualified instructor. Although it will be based fully at one of our main training facilities in Cannock or Solihull, our own in-house PADI Courses Director, Chris waterhouse, will be conducting and managing your PADI Instructor Development Course throughout.

The specific timings of the elements of your course may vary, and will depend very much on the progress of the group as a whole (to ensure that ever member achives their goal), however as a guide we have included a sample of the topics to be covered . The schedule is generally spread over a 7 day period with two days at the end for the final PADI Instructor Exam, and will of course comprise some pretty long days and a considerable amount of self study preparation work.

PADI IDC  Topics – Industry Overview / Standards & Procedures / Role of Media and Prescriptive Teaching / Legal and Risk Management / Delivering the Open Water Programme / Teaching the RDP /Adaptive Teaching / Continuing Education Philosophy / Business Principles / Delivering Adventures in Diving Programme / Open Water Skills Assesment / Delivery of Training in Open Water / Watermanship Skills / Delivering Rescue and Divemaster programmes / Diver Retention. All this of course on top of a general focus and attention to your own personal diving and general professional skills.

This is now the true sum of everything you have learned so far, whether is has taken you 12 months or 12 years to get to this level, you are now obviously ready to complete your journey. You are ready to become the one at the top who everyone else admires, and most likely secretly aspires to one day be equal to.

Instructor Exam (IE):- Once you have completed your OWSI programme you will receive, on payment of your registration fee, a PADI Instructor Development Course completion certificate, this will then allow you to proceed to the next and final level, the PADI Instructor Examination. The examination is totally independent of The Scuba + Outdoor Pursuits centre and is organised by PADI International themselves.
