SUPERHEROES VISIT HEDNESFORD

It was a night like any other, well like any other in a “weird twisted strange parallel universe” kind of way, that is. Our venue (The Globe, in Hednesford) was shrouded in early evening mist, as the strange grotesque figures emerged from the darkness – Ahhhhhh !

Yes it was certainly an interesting sight for the regulars in the Bar, as one Batman after another, after another jiggled their way into the function suite. I don’t think the “ACME Comedy Fat Batman Corporation” have ever had such a good month on costume sales.

Ok, its not like it was just a Batman event, there were just as many other lycra clad Superheroes there. In fact there was more than enough sucked in guts; dimpled bums and squished in body bits to keep a world class therapist in work for a good hundred years or more. The overall list read like a Marvel Comics re-union with 5 Supermen; 1 Supergirl; 6 Batmen (3 Fat Ones; 2 Regular and 1 Junior); 2 Batgirls; 1 Hulk; 1 Asterix; 1 Darth Mawl (Ohhh very Scary !); 3 Wonder women (Allbeit Mark was never gonna Carry it off with those legs); 1 Robin; 1 Pie Man; 1 Superted; 1 Zena; 4 Ghostbusters and a very politically incorrect Steve Irwin. The list was of course much longer, but by then my brain was already spinning, so apologies if I missed you off the roll call.

As the evening progressed and the drinks began to flow, the shyness barrier dropped and the mingling began. Which in Scottish John’s case meant getting us all in trouble, for over excessive use of his Ghostbusters water pistol (well I assume that’s what he sprayed me with – Hmmm ?). The stupid factor of course then reached a crescendo when our, by now theme tune, of the Macerana began to echo around the room. The skill; grace and prowess of the assorted miss-fits on the dance floor would have made even the “Strictly Come Dancing” judges cry (literally !).

A big thank you must go out to Sharon at The Globe, for a spectacular spread, the food was really superb, although Pie Man did supplement it with one of his own. To Instructor Alan goes our congratulations for winning the Fancy Dress Prize, and to Margaret a big thanks for sorting out the Raffle. Oh and to the regulars in the bar, a big apology, no you really weren’t that drunk – Batman; Supergirl; Spiderman; Batgirl; The Hulk; Zena and two Wonder women did do the Can-Can through your Bar.

So that was it another evening of Daftness, and frivolity over we all drifted off to our favourite phone-boxes and bat-caves to dream of next time !

You'll never look at your favourite superheroes in the same way again !
