It is always sad when bad things happen to nice people, and in this case an extremely nice person who we all knew personally for many years, but things do on occasion happen and especially when you are at the very pinnacle of your game. Although many of you may never have met him, you may well of heard of Carl Spencer or seen his work on the Discovery or National Geographic channels.

Carl Spencer - Diving Explorer

Carl was responsible for some of the most ground breaking dive exploration work, and filming, to have been conceived and launched from the UK, most famously including the Britannic Expeditions (Titanic Sister Ship) in Greece. A veteran of three expeditions to the Britannic, Carl made his first dive on the wreck eight years ago, uncovering evidence that the ship had been sunk by a mine rather than a torpedo, a question that had long divided historians.Not bad for (in his own words) a Plumber from Cannock.

At 130 metres deep the Britannic is the diving world equivalent of  Everest. Of course far beyond the realm of the rest of us regular recreati0nal divers all such extreme expeditions do carry with them a high level of risk, and on his last expedition to the wreck he unfortunately paid the ultimate price. Carls death left behind many friends and colleagues and more importantly his wife and two children. With the distress of loosing their father and husband his family have also had to struggle to balance the books, so to speak, and with this in mind we are pleased to be able to offer a little help in spreading the word of this Memorabilia Auction.

The Carl Spencer Memorabilia Auction will be held on Monday 23rd January at Fellows in Birmingham, and includes many interesting and unique items that Carl had accumulated over his many years of exploring. As a modern day Cousteau he had seen and done many things and been to many places the rest of us will only ever dream of. Now is an opportunity to not only help his family out, but to also own a bit of modern day history.
