The Doing It
Dive Club at
Stoney Cove was the first for 2008. The air was cold and
fresh, but the smiles were big. The Dive Club had visited Stoney
Cove before and always had good dives, and with hopes high for good
Vis from the Dive Club members we stood round and discussed what
every one would like to see. A walk was taken down to the slip way
of Stoney Coves key side to assess the situation……. Clear but cold!
With all Dive
Club members that were scheduled to arrive, actually here we got
down to having a brief, made more enjoyable by the fact that the sun
was now shining over the clear waters of Stoney Cove. The
whereabouts of utilities were explained as well as all safety
procedures, buddy pairs were assigned and we dispersed to our
various dive support vehicles to get kitted up.
Our first Stoney
Cove dive was off the bus stop. As we all entered the water and took
a look underwater, it was nice to be able to see the cockpit clear
as day ! Descents done, every one signalled to say they were ok, we
carried on. As we finned down the road we encountered a large pike
that seemed to mosey on by. Along the wall we came to the remains of
the Wessex helicopter an unfortunate display of how quickly divers
can strip something down for trophies. Next our accent took us up
the wall to the block house then up and out.
Now that the sun
was shining, it made our surface interval much more relaxing. As we
dried off, Stoney Coves snack bar supplied us with some much needed
nourishment before the next brief was undertaken. An ambitious dive
was decided on!
In off the Bus
Stop again, we headed for the Coach, and once there, to our surprise
we could actually see the Staingarth (Wow !!!), from there a bearing
was followed to the APC and then up the wall as air was starting to
get low. After this dive was completed, gear was packed away,
fingers and toes defrosted and the Doing It Dive Club headed for the
bar to enjoy a nice refreshing drink.
As the first 2008
outing for the Scuba + Outdoor Doing It Dive Club it was great
success with great visibility and a usually rammed Stoney Cove being
pretty quiet, making for an all round smooth day with enjoyable
diving.
So Roll on Sunday
February 3rd for our next outing to Capernwray ! If
you’re planning to come along please remember to give me Dave or
Chris a call at your local S+O Centre to book your slot – See you
there !! |
